Job Summary

The Food Manager will oversee all operations of the James River Church food program. The food program includes any meal catering opportunities, James River College Meal Program, staff meals, event meals, and James River Church Retreat Center food service. They will balance a hands-on approach with proper managerial direction to ensure great product quality and train staff/volunteers properly. Everything they do will keep with the vision of the Food Services Department and of James River Church.

  • Sunday
    • 7am-1pm
  • Wednesday
    • 5pm-9pm

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

 
  • Maintain a neat and orderly kitchen that passes Food Services Director inspections/checklists and all Health Department inspections.
  • Properly schedules staff, students, and volunteers needed for all food activities.
  • Responsible for inventory management including ordering, receiving, monthly inventory, food waste, and product rotation.
  • Assists with the recruiting of volunteers for the kitchen and Food Services Department.
  • Responsible for the proper training of all staff and volunteers.
  • Will ensure that all products have a received date and/or open date.
  • Oversees the planning and preparation of all assigned meals and catering.
  • Maintains a clean and properly functioning kitchen by keeping a maintenance/cleaning program in place for equipment and areas.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for all monetary transactions that are completed regarding the kitchen operations.
  • Responsible for following the assigned budget for the food program and communicating any exceptions to going over or under budget.
  • Oversee kitchen operations at spring retreats and summer camps.

Job Requirements

 
  • Have (or obtain within 30 days of employment) Manager’s ServSafe Certificate.
  • High school diploma.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Flexibility in schedule and in being able to work with many different personalities.
  • Available for summer camps off-site.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and operations.
  • Knowledge of controlling and tracking a budget.
  • Complete understanding of menus and recipes.
  • Exhibit good judgment, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and punctuality.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner, both orally and written.
  • Ability to train staff and volunteers to complete assigned duties.
  • Willing to follow department guidelines and expectations plus be able to communicate and train the staff to the same level.
