Digital Marketing Assistant


Job Summary

The Digital Marketing Assistant extends the reach of James River Church and its ministries through the execution and various digital marketing initiatives. Under the leadership of the Digital Marketing Department Manager and the Director of Communications, this role assists in building the church through the coordination of online campaigns, publishing, social media engagement, search engine optimization, research, reports, and project management. Additionally, this role provides administrative support to the Digital Marketing Department.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties


Digital Marketing Initiatives:

  • Develops and implements campaigns for web content
  • Oversees campaigns in growing the social following of James River Church
  • Publishes content and monitors JRC online presence of external sites
  • Engages with users on behalf of James River Church under the direction of the Digital Marketing Manager and the Online Campus Director
  • Schedules and publishes content through a variety of media outlets
  • Assists in email campaign requests and research of optimizing

  James River Church Website:

  • Assist in the innovation and development of the James River Church website.
  • Assist in proofing and writing copy for event pages for upcoming events.
  • Performs keyword research for new content and website optimization.
  • Report helpful data that allows us to make data driven decisions to implement change.
  • Regularly audit the website to assist in ensuring that it is up to date and optimized.
  • Regularly audit all systems, buttons, and forms so that they are easy to use and function well.
  • Research new platforms and web strategies that could benefit the church through ease of use and increased traffic.
  • Monitor the website frequently to ensure that it complies with James River Church brand guidelines.

  Online Streaming Platforms:

  • Assist in maintaining the level of quality across each of the Online Campus streaming platforms.
  • Assist in ensuring systems are created and executed for the streams to run smoothly.
  • Report helpful data that allows us to make data driven decisions to implement change.

  James River Church App:

  • Monitor the app frequently to ensure that information is up to date.
  • Ensure the app platform used by James River Church is consistent in quality with leading churches around the world.
  • Regularly audit the app to ensure it is following James River Church’s brand guidelines.

  Search Engine Optimization:

  • Monitors the James River Church brand and online presence.
  • Performs outreach to entities for link building and publication.
  • Performs keyword research for new content and website optimization.
  • Executes ongoing SEO efforts for local and global search engine rankings.

  Research & Reports:

  • Discovery of new marketing outlets and advertising opportunities.
  • Optimizes campaigns and content through A/B testing.
  • Analyzes campaign results and trends to generate reports of marketing efforts.
  • Assists in the creation and accuracy of reports for leadership in any field of digital marketing.

  Administrative Functions:

  • Handle invoices and expense reporting duties.
  • Assist in project and task management of the digital marketing team.
  • Coordinates communication between the digital marketing team and other departments in the church.
  • Manage departmental scheduling and requests.
  • Supports the department where needed.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year experience working in a professional, fast-paced, business, or church office environment, preferably with an emphasis on communications and marketing responsibilities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of modern office methods and procedures, telephone techniques, and office equipment, as well as English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Demonstrates excellent decision making and problem-solving abilities without immediate and constant supervision.
  • Detailed working knowledge of marketing, social media, and advertising.
  • Exhibit good judgment, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and punctuality through the utilization of professional work standards.
  • Always maintain a high level of confidentiality with regards to phone, email, and other forms of communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, civic organizations, business professionals, and the public.
  • Exceptional marketing and communication ability.
  • Detail oriented individual, able to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Able to collaborate on projects and campaigns within and outside of the church.
  • High aptitude in strategic planning, technology, and communication.
  • Able to work under tight deadlines and pressure, maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization preferred.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and required.
