Job Summary
The Joplin Campus Early Childhood Assistant Coordinator will assist the Early Childhood Coordinator by providing oversight to the Kid’s Check-in areas and managing new family engagement at their assigned Campus.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
Ministry Responsibilities:
- Assist with managing Sunday and Wednesday services and Dream Team.
- Absences may not exceed 4 Sundays and Wednesdays per year.
- Assist the coordinator with the set-up of the area.
- Assist with recruiting for the Early Childhood area.
- Ensure all Early Childhood policies and procedures are being always observed.
- Responsible for always keeping the area safe and secure.
- Conduct a huddle with leaders during each service to provide the necessary information and pray with leaders for the service as directed by a coordinator.
Atmosphere & Hosting:
- Recruit and train a greeting/ atmosphere team for the assigned Campus to cover all hosting positions for Sundays and Wednesdays.
- Communicate weekly events and activities to this team.
- Coordinate with atmosphere teams for special themes.
- Provide items for teams to create a fun atmosphere on the floor.
- Provide supplies for giving out rewards for kids saying the Big Idea/Zoo Clue.
- Keep the atmosphere and greeting resources always organized.
- Develop a team of coaches to help oversee greeters/atmosphere.
Kids Check-In:
- Ensure all Kid’s Check-in stations and areas are stocked and prepared for all service times.
- Recruit and train a team of kids check-in Dream Team for the assigned Campus to cover all stations.
- Communicate and schedule the kid’s check-in Dream Team at the assigned Campus for all service times.
- Troubleshoot any issues that may arise at the kid’s check-in areas.
- Keep the kid’s check-in resources stocked and always organized.
- Develop a team of coaches to help oversee the kid’s check-in Dream Team.
New Families Engagement:
- Follow up with new families through email or postcards.
- Ensure new family gifts are stocked and ready to be given during each service time.
- Work to plug in new families into serving on a Dream Team.
Parent Interaction/ Child Discipline:
- Actively engage parents and families in the life of the church.
- Follow up with kids and families who may be in need.
- Follow up with all disciplinary actions involving kids.
- Responsible to cultivate a culture that carries out James River Church Core Value of creating an atmosphere of encouragement with families, kids, and leaders.
Schedule:
- Sunday 7 am – 1 pm (6 hours), Tuesday 9 am – 3 pm (6 hours), Wednesday 5 pm – 9 pm (4 hours), Thursday 9 am – 3 pm (6 hours), and 6 hours flex time.
- In the event of absences or vacations, responsibilities must be covered.
- Absentees are not to exceed four Sundays a year.
Job Requirements
- The job requires a moderate level of activity including but not limited to moving to the floor and back up, standing/walking for an extended period (often 6 -8 hours), etc.
James River Church Early Childhood Employee Childcare Policy:
- Early Childhood employees must have childcare arrangements made for all children aged 6 months through 6th grade.
- Early Childhood employees may keep a newborn with them for up to 6 months and are responsible to arrange childcare once a child reaches 6 months of age.
- Employees must clock out to nurse or attend to the needs of their children.
- If children accompany parents to work, they must be enrolled in Weekday Preschool. Weekday Preschool enrollment is based on availability. Employees will receive the staff rate.
- Children cannot be with an Early Childhood employee during service times. Children must be with a spouse or checked into the assigned classroom.
- Please avoid the child’s classroom during that time.
- If a child is extremely fussy and cannot stay in a class or on the bye-bye buggy; arrangements should be made for a spouse or someone else to pick up your child.
- If no one is available to help, you will need to take the child home.
- Employees may bring elementary kids with them during school holidays. The kids must be with a parent managed and always controlled. Behavior issues will be addressed individually as needed.
- Employees must arrange childcare for all kids (infant through 6th grade) during the summer. An additional elementary program is offered at James River Church South campus during the summer.
- Employees cannot bring additional kids with them during work hours unless they are enrolled in the Weekday Preschool. Be advised that additional kids do not qualify for the staff discount rate.
- Sick kids are not allowed at any time.

- Must be able to deal with emergencies and security issues in a calm and confidential way.
