Social Media Content Creator


Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Communication and in cooperation with the Creative Team Director and the Pastor of Content Development. As a Social Media Content Creator, you’ll get to work with a team to build engagement with those interact with us through our digital platforms. You’ll help edit, design, and create the content that’s important to James River Church in our mission to reach the lost by reaching young families.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • You’ll find new and improved ways to market content through media.
  • You’ll use your video, design, and photo skills to produce content that makes sense for a designated media outlet (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, etc.)
  • Assist in setting up, planning, and executing film and photography projects for social media engagement.
  • You’ll work closely with the Pastor of Content Development to identify and explore opportunities for greater impact, discover and execute trends for increased engagement, and feedback on content.
  • You’ll work closely with the Creative Team Director to receive feedback and coaching on the execution of created pieces.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and required by your direct report.

Job Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or 2+ years of relevant digital experience, including design, video, or both.
  • High level of understanding of popular social networks – design, functionality, users, etc.
  • Very high attention to detail.
  • Understanding of Adobe CC Suite including Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, etc.
  • High level of time management and ability to work under pressure.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Portfolio available online.
  • Love for working on a team as much as working online.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Exhibit good judgment, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and punctuality through the utilization of professional work standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting critical deadlines.
  • Knowledge of modern office methods and procedures, filing, telephone techniques, and office equipment; as well as English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to get along well with others and handle confidential matters.
  • Ability to manage time and multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, orally, and, in writing.
  • PC skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Word, Planner, and Teams).
  • Must be punctual, pleasant, and tactful with professional appearance and conduct.
  • Exhibit professionalism and always maintain confidentiality.
  • Capacity to interact positively and provide service to others at all levels within James River Church.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, coworkers, civic organizations, business professionals, and the public.
  • Must have strong analytical skills and critical thinking skills.
  • Exhibit a spirit of unity.

Code of Conduct & Character

James River Church is Pastor-led and staff driven with board oversight. JRC staff are considered leaders and ministers of the gospel and therefore agree to the following:

  1. Develop and maintain a close personal walk with the Lord including:
    • Daily devotional time with Lord.
    • Daily dependence on the empowerment of the Spirit.
  2. Develop a strong marriage and family life. This includes:
    • Communicating and sharing with your spouse.
