Youth Pastor – Joplin Campus


Job Summary

To work closely with the James River Youth Directors and Joplin Campus Pastor to serve as the Youth Pastor at Joplin Campus and work as part of a team in the development and execution of weekly Sunday and Wednesday services as well as various Youth and church-wide events.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties


Campus Oversight:

  • Responsible for assigned campus during all services and events including physical set-up, dream team assignments, and overall atmosphere.
  • Under the direction of the James River Youth Directors, the Joplin Campus Youth Pastor would assume the role as the primary vision caster and minister to the needs of the Joplin Campus Youth Dream Team, students, and parents.


Dream Team:

  • Serve as campus Dream Team Coordinator.
  • Recruit, train, and develop a weekday team to assist with set-up and cleaning.
  • Enter Dream Teamers into FellowshipOne as well as maintain updates as needed.
  • Weekly communication with the team.
  • Recruit, train, and develop the Sunday and Wednesday Youth Dream Team.
  • Roster and assign all team serving in Youth through F1.
  • Manage attendance and consistency of the Dream Team.
  • Assign and complete F1 interactions in a timely manner.
  • Provide ongoing encouragement for Dream Teamers.


Life Group:

  • Recruit and train an effective team for Next Level and High School Life Groups.
  • Multiply Life Groups, as necessary.
  • Monitor and maintain the health of all Life Groups.
  • Develop a team of coaches to assist in overseeing the Life Group ministry.
  • Communicate all the details of Life Group in a timely manner.
  • Print and distribute Life Group discussion guides.
  • Be familiar with everything needed for a successful Life Group and ensure that all needed supplies are readily available.
  • Create samples of Life Group activities.


Venue Prep:

  • Ensure that the resource store is adequately stocked and prepped for services including money box, apparel, and signage.
  • Provide an atmosphere that is welcoming, exciting, and staffed with Dream Teamers.
  • Set-up and manage games and activities in the venue.
  • Oversee set-up needs for each service as needed including but not limited to:
    • Chair set-up (at times coordinating with facilities)
    • Stanchions
    • Signage


Service Responsibilities:

  • This role’s primary responsibility involves managing Sunday and Wednesday services as well as Dream Teams.
  • Overseeing the preaching and teaching of the Word of God to the Joplin student ministry.
  • Lead huddle times.
  • Teach, host, and train new leaders during service.
  • Must be able to handle discipline issues and handle confrontational situations with students, parents, and leaders in a manner that reflects the heart and views of James River Youth leadership team and James River Church.
  • Distribute OOS for both Sunday and Wednesday teams.
  • Acquire and organize all necessary props and materials for services.
  • Ensure backstage areas and supplies are kept clean and organized.
  • Set-up sound board and microphones, TVs, and speakers.

  • Creativity to help create an atmosphere in James River Kids that will help kids experience God in a way they’ll never forget.


Training & Experience


  • Associates Degree from an accredited College/University.
  • 3 years’ experience in student and/or young adult ministry.
  • 3 years’ experience leading and managing a team or department.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must possess the required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience. Must be able to explain and demonstrate that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge and skill in supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to interact positively with and provide service to others at all levels within James River Church.
  • Exhibit good judgment, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and punctuality through the utilization of professional work standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting critical deadlines.
  • Understands social media platforms and maintains a healthy social media presence.
  • Exhibit a spirit of unity.
  • Maintains a black belt in laughter and fun.
