Meant to be Content
Philippians 4:10-23
1 Timothy 6:8 (NLT)
But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
HEBREWS 13:5 (NIV)
Keep yourself free from the love of money and be content with what you have.
1. Value people more than possessionsÂ
PHILIPPIANS 4:10 (ESV)
I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity.
PHILIPPIANS 4:10b (ESV)
were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity.
2. Understand possessions are not the key to happinessÂ
PHILIPPIANS 4:11a (ESV)
Not that I am speaking of being in need,
PHILIPPIANS 4:11 (ESV)
Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.Â
LUKE 12:15 (NLT)
Then he said, "Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own."
PHILIPPIANS 4:11-12 (ESV)
Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
3. Remember your relationship with Jesus Christ
PHILIPPIANS 4:13 (NKJV)
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
4. Be more concerned with the needs of others than your ownÂ
PHILIPPIANS 4:14-17 (NLT)
Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty. As you know, you Philippians were the only ones who gave me financial help when I first brought you the Good News and then traveled on from Macedonia. No other church did this. Even when I was in Thessalonica you sent help more than once. I don't say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness.Â
5. Rest confidently in God’s provisionÂ
PHILIPPIANS 4:18 (NLT)
At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God.Â
PHILIPPIANS 4:19 (NIV)
And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
PHILIPPIANS 4:20 (NIV)
To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
PHILIPPIANS 4:21-23 (NIV)
Greet all the saints in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send greetings. All the saints send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesar's household. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
