Scripture ReferencePhilippians 3:1-11
1st Righteousness is our greatest need
ROMANS 3:10 (NIV)
There is no one righteous, not even one.
ROMANS 3:23 (ESV)
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
1st They are justified
2nd They are declared legally righteous by a just and merciful God
COLOSSIANS 2:14 (NLT)
He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
2nd Righteousness is our greatest problem
PHILIPPIANS 3:1 (ESV)
Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you.
PHILIPPIANS 3:2 (ESV)
Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh.
ROMANS 3:20a (NIV)
Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law;
PHILIPPIANS 3:3 (NLT)
For we who worship by the Spirit of God are the ones who are truly circumcised. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort,
PHILIPPIANS 3:4-8 (NLT)
though I could have confidence in my own effort if anyone could. Indeed, if others have reason for confidence in their own efforts, I have even more! I was circumcised when I was eight days old. I am a pure-blooded citizen of Israel and a member of the tribe of Benjamin—a real Hebrew if there ever was one! I was a member of the Pharisees, who demand the strictest obedience to the Jewish law. I was so zealous that I harshly persecuted the church. And as for righteousness, I obeyed the law without fault. I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ.
3rd Righteousness is the greatest gift
PHILIPPIANS 3:8-9 (NLT)
Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him.
PHILIPPIANS 3:9 (NLT)
I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God's way of making us right with himself depends on faith.
