Your Good Shepherd
Ezekiel 34
Tim Keller writes,
“When the Bible calls us sheep, it’s an insult. It’s supposed to be an insult.”
He looks after you
Ezekiel 34:12a (NIV)
As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep.
He rescues you
Ezekiel 34:12b (NIV)
I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.
He provides for you
Ezekiel 34:13b–14 (NIV)
I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land. I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.
He gives you rest
Ezekiel 34:15 (NIV)
I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD.
Ezekiel 34:15 (MSG)
And I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep. I myself will make sure they get plenty of rest.
Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
He directs you
Ezekiel 34:16a (NIV)
I will search for the lost and bring back the strays.
He meets your needs
Ezekiel 34:16b (NIV)
I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak
